FILM WEEKS GUIDELINES
1. Actions and objectives
Med-Screen proposes to organize several Arab “Film Weeks” from the MEDA region, particularly in partner countries where these films have difficult access to the market.
These “Film Weeks” will take place in movie theaters and will be organized in partnership with festivals and organizations working in this field. The program could include short-films.
The objective is to introduce these films into new territories, and try to create a public for them. This new public could, in the short run, encourage DVD producers and distributors to ensure that these films are released in movie theatres, and are therefore more likely to be distributed on DVD.
2. Beneficiaries and eligibility criteria
¬ In order to enhance the visibility of the “Film Weeks”, Med-Screen will privilege partnerships with established festivals in Europe or the Mediterranean, especially those with a large audience, and will propose them to program this Arab “Film Week” as a parallel section to their official selection. Film selection, organization and media communication will be done in close coordination with the festivals and the movie theaters in which the “Film Weeks” are being screened.
¬ Med-Screen can also organize the “Film Weeks” in association with institutions who can provide one or several movie theatres to host this event.
¬ In countries where such partnerships with the festivals or organizations are difficult, Med-Screen will collaborate directly with the local exhibitors.
In any case, the film theatres must be situated in one of the partner countries; they must be equipped with a good quality 35mm projector (image and sound), a ticketing system, and have good security conditions for the public which are in accordance with national standards.
Med-Screen will try to have a balanced geographical distribution among its partner countries, giving priority to the areas and cities where the visibility of Arab films is poor.
3. Terms and conditions
Med-Screen will propose a non-exhaustive list of titles from which its partners can make their program. The selection of films should be geographically representative.
4. Eligible costs
Med-Screen will sign a partnership agreement with its partners and the movie theatres, where the contributions and obligations of each party will be specified.
Med-Screen contribution will cover the following eligible costs:
- Printing or rental of film copies
- Transportation of prints
- Printing of promotional material (catalogues, posters, flyers)
- Printing of promotional material (catalogues, posters, flyers)
- Directors’ invitation
Contribution of the festival or organization:

- Animating the movie theatres: welcome the public and the invited filmmakers, organize round tables and discussions...
- Register admissions and collect box office income
Contribution of the exhibitor:

The partners and the cinemas will fully adhere to make visible this support programme within the framework of Euromed Audiovisual.
