Rafik ALI AHMAD – Actor
I play the role of Youssef, a Lebanese citizen, who has always wished, as all Lebanese do, the war in Lebanon would stop, yet whenever a war ends, another erupts. So he chose to leave Beirut and move into another city which is the place in which we are shooting. He left Beirut with photographs, some belonging to the collective memory while others to real people who have existed and whom he knew.
When Chadi asked me to work with him on this film, I didn’t read the script, for he had already shot the previous stories. Only my part, which connects the stories together through my character, remained. When I first met him, he said “I’d like to talk to you and get to know you better, I have this role which I’d like you to play.” We talked for about 30 minutes, and I instantly knew, from the way he approached me, that I wanted to play this role. I thought he was a real filmmaker, so I didn’t bother reading the script.
I reaffirmed my perception of Chadi when we started to work on set, for I thought he was self-confident, and has a true and unique cinematographic language.
