Petra ABOU SLEIMAN – Art director
Chadi always worked with me, and with the crew in general as such: he would basically give me concept and the mood he feels appropriate; we would discuss it together and tackle all the details, what he wants and what he doesn’t. Then, we begin to construct the set accordingly with all the elements that are required.
When we came to Souq Al Ghareb (the location), we went to the extremes. The work there was really poetic; we had to analyze concepts like time and waiting.
This part in which we are shooting with actor Rafik Ali Ahmad, that we call the ‘zone,’ is actually the hardest set I have worked in, for the conditions were atrocious. It was raining all the time, and we were freezing.
Though the experience is really great in itself, especially while working with Rafik since we had to create a set that is only realistic through the elements that shape it. Rafik is not a tramp, he chooses by himself to live in this wrecked shelter, hence the importance to construct a place that he would call ‘home.’
It was the perfect place to ‘go ahead and get creative.’
