Chadi Roukoz – Sound Engineer
When Simon has first told me about the film, I liked the idea. He said it is going to take place in a lone and remote village. We are following a single man who's alone in this village. I was excited by the idea since I am very fond of calm settings. Plus we get to leave the city for a while since most of the shootings take place in it, and that makes it more interesting.
The soundtrack of the village is different than that of the city. There is no noise, but rather the sounds of the village: chicken, cows, the wind that brings with it the rustling of the leaves… All of these sounds, when mixed together, bring a certain feel to the film and add to its texture.
The film has very tranquil mood therefore each sound that we hear has its own place. For instance, if we're shooting the man while he's walking at home, we might hear a rooster crowing outside. If he's preparing coffee, all sounds are caught closely: the coffee cup, the lighter, the fire, water boiling… This is an upshot to the film through the minimalist sounds that are happening from time to time.
