Khadija ASSAD - Actress
I started by reading the script, which I found great. I liked it because it’s encouraging, and these days you come across a good script only too rarely. My part is pretty comical, it shows how a woman can change because she’s receiving attention from a man. I’d never been directed in a film by a woman before. There’s a kind of current between us, she only has to explain things very briefly for me to understand what she wants. What’s more Zakia is a very polite woman, by which I don’t necessarily mean that men aren’t, but she does have that female side of things. The film looks at Moudawana, family law, as a step forward for women’s liberation in Moroccan society. It gives a picture of what it would be like for women if ever men’s attitudes towards them were to change. What will happen in the future?
