She contacted me in Montreal eight months ago to offer me the part, frankly the subject of the film is women in general under Moudawana, Moroccan family law. What I liked most is that Zakia TAHIRI is a woman who has tried to take a man’s point of view. And I think she has succeeded. Working on each new character is never easy, you need research, concentration: nervous ticks and little touches that come from your knowledge of society. Above all, being a man, I’ve known lots of men like my character and I tried to bring in something from them. I’m on screen all the time so I try to add something new each time so as not to become repetitious, but that’s part of the tricks of the trade, for me this character is a new challenge.
