Pascale GRANEL - Director of Photography
I met Zakia TAHIRI three of four weeks before shooting started, we hadn’t met before and she was looking for a cinematographer, that’s why we met. This film is a comedy, which means you want a rather warm kind of light, but above all you want a lot of light for each shot, you’ve got to have all the depth of field so that the action can be followed through, that’s the point all the time, you want brightly coloured images with good light quality – because after all the look and feel have to be different from the old days. They have to be solid, believable. My assistant operators are Moroccan and they’re excellent. You’re always nervous until shooting is completed, until you’ve seen the rushes, because they’re being developed at Baba, that’s in Belgium. Things can happen, but it’s ok and until the film’s finished you keep on looking for something, you’re never happy until all the footage is in. But otherwise I’m happy with everything.
