This is a movie based on historical facts. It speaks about a sport born at the beginning of XIX century in Morocco and practised until 1940/1950 in Fès.
While I was researching for the film, I got in touch with Moncef ELKADIRI, a writer and a friend of mine, who wrote several short stories in the book Le mystique Anonym, and among them there was Taieb l’mchaouchi. We took the story and we put in « mchaoucha » fight.
In this movie I wanted to focus on XIX century’s art, by means of theatre, Shakespeare and religious influence, making use of all the Gothic settings in Morocco there is plenty of, first of all mosques, since this aspect hasn’t been highlighted enough yet.
