Making of directed by Youssef Britel

Mohammed NESRATE ñ 1st ASSISTANT DIRECTOR

When I started on Les jardins de Samira, well, on the first day of shooting I saw the farm at Driss with all the fields and so on, for me it was just a magnificent place to spend 4 weeks making a film, up to a point I can relax even when I’m working, there’s such a good atmosphere, everything is pleasant.

Running a set needs an open-minded 1st assistant, one who knows something about psychology, because the technical crew can’t give their best unless there’s mutual respect and unless there’s constant communication, so everyone is kept up to date about what’s going on and what needs to be got done that day.

I never have problems on set, either with the cast or with the technical staff. The cast need to be directed and that’s the director’s job, but the technical side is the responsibility of the first assistant and I think I get by ok.
