Latif LAHLOU - DIRECTOR

"It was a young Moroccan screenwriter who sent me this story about two young girls from a very humble background who are getting to the age where they become frightened of ending up as old maids. Since the elder of the two is old enough to marry, she wants to find a husband at any price. What I found interesting was not so much the story of the two girls as such, but the idea of Samira accepting to marry someone she doesnít know. Also, when she begins her married life, she discovers that her husband is impotent.

I hope to go beyond the visible surface in this story and to get inside the minds of the characters. Thatís the mental journey I want to describe in the film.

I always work with the same crew, we know each other and the set is always very calm, everyone getting on with their job, everyone knows exactly what they have to do. They leave me to work with the cast, they keep the hell out of my way so I can get on with what I have to do.

When you have good set design, a good crew, a good cast, then itís up to the director to be good, too ñ otherwise everyone would be wasting their time.
