Tarhat Hamdi - Actor
‘Hassiba’ is one of the most important stories to be written by Arab Syrian writer Khairi Al Dahabi. It tackled the era of French colonialism to Syria in the last decade and the resistance movement that faced it.
In the film, I play the role of Sayyah Al Msaddah, Hassiba’s father, who works in the textile industry. Hassiba has been with him throughout the various resistance battles, in the valleys and in the mountains, until the end of the revolution, which led them to return to Damascus. There, they had no place to stay in, so they seeked refuge in his cousin’s house, who ends up marrying Hassiba.
Sayyah, who was born with a rifle on his shoulder, tried to find a job within the textile field that he used to work in. However, his son-in-law pushed him to work in his shop, selling dairy products. Sayyah found out that this is not where he belongs, he thought he should fight colonialism wherever it was. This has led him to fight alongside the Palestinian resistance during the 1936 revolt in Palestine, in which he was killed. |
