MAKING OF dHassiba [Syria]

Directed by Raymond Boutros

Shot in Damascus, Syria,  08/12/2006
Making of directed by Gilbert Cherfane

Georges El-Khoury - Director of Photography

‘Hassiba’ is the first Syrian film to be produced by the National Association of Cinema (NAS) in High Definition format (HD). All the films that were previously produced by the NAS have been shot on film.
We wanted to achieve a step forward through this film, since the NAS brought the new HD equipment. I don’t want to call this an adventure but rather a daring step to produce ‘Hassiba’ in HD format. Dealing with the HD is a sensitive and meticulous issue since the blow-up of the film needs special attention. We have to be precise about everything from the lights, shadows, and contrasts to the smallest details and even the camera movements when shooting with the HD.
We were able to create, in ‘Hassiba,’ an appealing atmosphere. We were able to see every image on the spot. The director was very pleased since he was able to see the images clearly with every single detail, and this is a first in a Syrian film.

The ambiance is very pleasant. We were all keen on retracing this particular era as it was portrayed in the original story.
