Amin Matalqa – WRITER, PRODUCER AND DIRECTOR
Living next to an airport in the US within a family of aviators (both my father and brother are aviators) had a great effect on me. The airport is one of the sole places in which both the rich and the poor meet to bid farewell or welcome their loved ones. The story started from here. Abou Raed, a worker in the cleaning department of Queen Alya’s International Airport, is a deprived yet self-educated old man. He enjoys life and people’s company, has a considerable influence on the kids of his neighborhood and spends some of his time with an aviator, Captain Noor.
It took me a year and a half to write the script of this film. I enjoyed working very much with a crew comprised of Jordanians, Americans, Germans, Danish, Lebanese, Tunisians, and Moroccans. We were all working as one team, with the aim of achieving a good film.
Concerning the financing, we have created a company called Panel Paper, which is composed of families aspiring to have a prosperous Jordanian cinema. Financing the film was not as hard as I had expected.
As to the actors, I have known Nadim for a very long time. I was enthralled to know that he accepted to act in the film. The kids have been chosen in the Camps.
It’s a dream to work with such a crew, actors and locations. I wish every cinematic experience would be like this one.
