MAKING OF d Basra [EG]

Directed by Ahmad Rashwan

Shot in Cairo and Alexandria (Egypt), on 5-6/12/2007
Making of directed by Sabine Choucair

Bassem Al Samra – Actor

My name is Bassem Al Samra, an actor in the cinema industry. I am playing the role of Tarek who was studying law in Paris. A couple of months before achieving his doctorate, he decided to change his career and become a photographer. He returned to Egypt for family reasons and stayed there ever since.
This is the first time that I play such a character, for I believe that photographers are charismatic, and they do not always have to picture photos with their cameras, but instead they can do it with their eyes.
Ahmad Rashwan is a friend of mine. So I knew from the beginning that we were filming a low-budget movie, and that if the film manages to be sold, I will get paid later on. I read the script and instantly liked it. And because I know Ahmad very well, we get along really well on the set, and that's part of the great atmosphere that is prevailing while shooting. The cast is also very strong. All in one, you feel like you are creating a piece of art, and not a commercial thing.
I hope this film will be a success, because we have great actors, a promising director and the topic is interesting enough.
