Ahmad Rachwan – Director, Scriptwriter, Producer
The film is called "100% Alive" (now entitled "Basra") and it evolves around a one-month timeframe. It starts on the 17th of March, right before the beginning of the American-British war on Iraq, and ends right after the fall of Baghdad.
We can claim that this film has a social and humanitarian aspect, with a political background.
The writing of the film has started in 2003, with the beginning of the Iraqi war, and the first draft has been accomplished in July 2003. After that, I began to search for potential producers, but that hasn't led me anywhere. So I left the project aside for a while. Then after some thinking, I decided to produce it myself on digital. We're planning to have the final copy on 35mm. Until now, I am the only producer of the film.
I would like to dedicate this film to the people, to my generation, and to the cinema lovers. I would like to tell everyone who believes in independent cinema that we still can come up with our own films, and challenge the constraints of the market.
I am sure that if one gives his all to a certain project, he will obtain a good result.
