Belkacem Hadjadj - Producer
The adventure of a producer in Algeria is extremely complicated and tough. As you know, the national production companies, which are the public enterprises that were producing cinema, have been dissolute under the pretext of liberalization, yet nothing has replaced them. The dissolution of the public enterprises was followed by the well-known "red decade" of the 90's which, I would say, has torn up the human tie.
We love to have our own look at our societies. We never find the necessary means to do these films on our own soil, so we run to programs that have, in spirit, a generous idea. These are programs from the North that aim at helping the cinema of the South. Yet these funds have to be managed by people of the South who can appreciate the projects that are being undertaken from the South, and who have a Southern look on the South. That is because we send projects emerging from the South that are being read by people who have a Northern look, which can be deceptive for someone who has a Northern look will choose projects answering his own perception, projects to which he is sensitive. |
